A powerplay goal in the first period for Mika Zibanejad was the ice breaker the New York Rangers needed en route to blowing out the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Bolts’ only goal was scored by, who else? Nikita Kucherov... It was his 402nd career goal and 1,125th point. He’s now 13 points shy of surpassing Steven Stamkos as the all time franchise leader in points.
The Rangers four others goals were all even strength, as Tampa only committed two penalties. However, New York committed seven and killed all seven penalties. That was the difference-maker.
Next up, the Lightning host the Washington Capitals for their home opener on Saturday, October 3rd.
