NOT A Scam: $100 Checks to Hillsborough County Residents

Because the Florida Department of Revenue collected almost $570 million from Hillsborough County residents through a 1% sales tax that was ultimately deemed unconstitutional by the Florida Supreme Court, $100 checks were dispersed - but only to those who filed a claim as part of a class action suit. In addition to the refund checks, approximately $256 million from the lawsuit will fund transportation projects.
