Woman stabbed 1-year-old daughter, police say

GREENVILLE, N.C. — A police officer in Greenville, North Carolina, said he saw a mother stab her 1-year-old daughter in the back.

Cierra Dyer is now charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse, WITN reported.

The Greenville Police Department said the incident happened Monday afternoon.

Police said Dyer had been arguing with a family member over custody of the child, WNCT reported.

An officer went into the kitchen of the home and saw Dyer stab the child in the back. When the officer confronted Dyer, she threw the knife to the floor and was taken into custody.

Dyer is in the Pitt County Detention Center on a $1.5 million bond, The Associated Press reported.

The 1-year-old is expected to make a full recovery, the AP reported.
