According to a news release from the Grand Junction Police Department, Neil Patrick Veitch, 32, of Madison, Wisconsin, was arrested early Sunday. He was charged with the illegal discharge of a firearm, possession of weapons by previous offenders, prohibited use of a weapon, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, two violations of a protection order and criminal possession of identification, according to Mesa County online booking records.

Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were called to a residence at about 7:45 p.m. MST on Jan. 21 after receiving reports of a man yelling and firing a gun inside a home, KKCO-TV reported.

According to the police news release, several occupants of the residence exited, but Veitch barricaded himself in the home’s attic.

Police attempted several times to make contact with Veitch, who refused to cooperate, authorities said. A SWAT unit was sent to the scene, and police eventually made contact with the man, KKCO reported.

“After several hours, officers were able to contact Mr. Veitch, who fell out of the attic,” the news release stated. “Mr. Veitch was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.”

Once Veitch was medically cleared, he was booked into the Mesa County Detention Center early Sunday, according to KKCO.

According to police, an investigation is ongoing.
