At first, the train was thought to have been carrying hazardous materials but that ended up not being the case. Instead, it was hauling corn syrup, The Associated Press reported.

The train, operated by BNSF Railway, derailed around 7:40 p.m. in a rural, non-residential area and no one was hurt, CNN reported.

A spokesperson with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said they were not aware of any spills or leaks.

Officials do not know what caused the derailment, which affected eight cars, but they are investigating, the AP reported.

The region was under a tornado warning until about two hours before the crash, but it is not known if the weather contributed to the derailment, CBS News reported.

This latest derailment happened less than six weeks after one in Ohio released toxic chemicals in the community of Palestine, The New York Times reported.

In that derailment, about 40 cars jumped the tracks in a crash on Feb. 3. The incident caused toxic chemicals to spew into the air, soil and creeks. Because of the danger of an explosion, the company released and burned the chemicals intentionally from five of the railcars, causing a fire and sending black smoke into the sky, ABC News reported.

Ohio has filed a federal lawsuit against Norfolk Southern Railway, accusing the company of “recklessly endangering” the health of residents and the state’s natural resources, ABC News reported.
