TORONTO — Police are investigating after a 2-year-old boy fell to his death from the 14th floor of a Toronto apartment building, authorities said.

According to CTV News and the CBC, the incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday in the Jane and Finch neighborhood. Toronto police arrived to find a child who had suffered "very severe injuries" after falling from a window or balcony, Inspector Darren Alldrit said.

Emergency responders rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, where he died, CTV News reported.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident, which they consider suspicious, according to the news outlet.
