Officials: Man dies after being trapped in grain bin in Iowa

DEWITT, Iowa — Officials are investigating after a man got trapped inside a grain bin and died in Dewitt, Iowa on Wednesday.

In a news release, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday just after 7 p.m. their office along with the DeWitt Fire Department were called out to 2073 320th Avenue in Dewitt, Iowa for a report of a man trapped inside a grain bin. Once deputies and fire crews arrived at the scene, they found the man trapped in a grain bin that was partially filled.

DeWitt firefighters worked with other jurisdictions to get the man out of the bin, according to KWQC.

The sheriff’s office said the fire crews were able to get the man out but he died from being trapped.

“It’s very difficult, if not impossible to get yourself out in flowing grain,” Clinton County farmer and farm bureau member, Chad Petersen said, according to KWQC.

The Clinton County Medical Examiner’s office along with the sheriff’s office is going to continue to investigate this incident, according to the news outlet.

The name of the man has not been released due to next of kin notification, the sheriff’s office said.

No information has been released about how the man got trapped or if anyone was with him at the time.
