CENTREVILLE, Va. — A naked burglar continues to elude police in Northern Virginia, but authorities have released a sketch of the suspect and video showing the man prowling near the back of a Centreville residence.

According to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department, officers responded to a home in the London Towne neighborhood of Centreville at about 7:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday after receiving a report about a suspicious person.

The resident contacted police after receiving an alert from the home’s surveillance system.

Video captured at 5 a.m. ET showed a fully nude man wearing what appeared to be an article of clothing on his head as he approached a sliding glass door at the back of the residence, police said.

Police said the man attempted to open the door, and when he failed to gain entry, the suspect fled toward a nearby wooded area.

Detectives believe this suspect may be connected to four previously reported encounters in the London Towne neighborhood, WJLA reported. " The incidents occurred in the early morning hours daily between March 5 and March 8, according to the television station.

“Certainly an individual who’s going up to the back of a home running away, there’s some knowledge and awareness of what they’re doing, but there could be a layer of mental health that is involved in this,” police department spokesperson Maj. James Curry told reporters. ”Turning someone in to make sure this does not happen again, or it does not evolve to something else, is very important, and I would say somebody’s responsibility to the community."

Residents in the area are being more vigilant, making sure their doors and windows are secure.

“It’s a little scary it’s on this block now,” resident Ryan Key told WJLA. “I, to be honest, had thought the matter had been taken care of because I hadn’t heard much about it, so that’s a real shock that, ‘Oh no, he’s back, we’re still doing this, they haven’t caught him yet.’”

“We were panicking and freaking out because we do have kids, and it’s very scary and surprising because this has always felt like such a safe neighborhood,” Arianne Ignacio, another area resident, told the television station.

Fairfax County Police have increased patrols in the area.

“I’m constantly looking everywhere now because this is a quiet neighborhood and I don’t expect things like this to happen, but now I’m just always kind of on edge,” Key told WJLA.

As for the suspect’s intent, Curry said only one person could answer that, WUSA reported.

“I think intent is one of the questions that always gets asked, and there’s one person who knows his intent,” Curry said. “Unfortunately, the intent beyond breaking into a home and undressing oneself has ended there and we’re not interested in seeing what additional intent this individual might have inside those homes, and that’s why we’re sharing this information.

“That’s why we’re putting a lot of our resources in place to get this guy and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
