Kansas City Zoo shooting: 1 dead after gun goes off in parking lot

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is dead after a gun went off in the parking lot of a zoo in Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

According to KSHB and KMBC, the incident occurred about 5 p.m. Sunday outside the Kansas City Zoo. A group of four people entered a parked car moments before a gun fired, injuring a man, KSHB reported. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

Although witnesses told KSHB that the shooting was "accidental," Kansas City police said they are still investigating the case.

In a statement posted to social media, the zoo said it was thankful that its staff and police responded quickly to the incident.

"Please join us in sending your thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of those involved," the statement read.
