A Florida man has been arrested, accused of sneaking onto an airplane near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and falling asleep on the aircraft.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said a JetBlue Move Team found Sammuel Lackey asleep on board a 2012 JetBlue Airbus A320 early Sunday morning before they started moving it, WPBF reported.
The plane was at JetScape Business Aviation near the airport for maintenance.
Lackey apparently went over a fence to gain access to the plane, WSVN reported.
Surveillance video showed Lackey walking on a service road a few hours before he was found, officials said. He allegedly climbed the portable stairs maintenance employees left near the aircraft and got into the plane through an unlocked door. He hid in the plane’s restroom, officials said.
The plane’s doors were eventually closed and locked, and then it was taken to a parking space at the facility.
Because Lackey was found on the plane, it could not be put into service, and another aircraft was brought in, delaying the scheduled flight.
The disruption of the flight was valued at more than $2,400.
Lackey was charged with unarmed burglary of an occupied conveyance, criminal mischief, and interruption of critical infrastructure.
He was booked into the Broward County Jail on $10,000 bail, WPEC reported.
