In Lackawanna County, spectators at a match between the Abington Heights and Central Columbia girls soccer teams watched in amusement as the deer galloped from one end of the field to the other, WNEP-TV reported.

The match was being played on the new turf field at Abington Heights High School, located near Clarks Summit borough of the county northwest of Scranton, according to the newspaper.

The deer outraced the coverage but did not gain control of the ball, so there was no chance of scoring a goal, even though one of the goalkeepers prudently left the field as the animal approached, leaving the net wide open.

But fans ate up the diversion, fawning over the carefree deer.
