The Texas Department of Transportation (Lufkin) said that an area of roadway in Crockett, Texas, has been facing “bleeding asphalt” or melting asphalt due to the excessive heat.

According to KPRC, said the roadway didn’t close but the traffic was slowed down as crews worked to apply lime water. Temperatures across the state reached about 100 degrees on Monday.

KPRC said lime water is used on roadways when it’s very hot outside in order to cool them down. In this instance, it’s to prevent any further melting.
