What to watch for in the 2025 NFL season

It’s finally here! The NFL is back. We get football every week from now until Super Bowl LX on February 8th, 2026. Although, the offseason wasn’t exactly dormant. There was plenty of drama to go around. That being said, here’s what to watch for in the 2025 NFL season.

Right Here In The Bay

Let’s start with the home team. The Tampa Bay Bucs look to reach the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season, and a historic fifth consecutive NFC South Division title. The offense brings back their core, but the defense has some new faces that will need to find their way in the system. On top of that, it’s the Buc’s 50th NFL season and they’re celebrating with new “Bucco Bruce” helmets and bringing back the “Creamsicle” unis!

Around The League

Outside of Tampa, we saw QB’s Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields swap teams with Rodgers now with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Fields hoping to fly with the New York Jets. Russell Wilson was the odd man out, but found a landing spot as the opening day starter with the New York Giants.

In New England, Mike Vrabel replaces Jerod Mayo, who only lasted one season and Bill Belichick’s replacement. Vrabel is a former Patriots linebacker and a former NFL coach of the year with the Tennessee Titans. He knows the culture Belichick built and is in a good position to bring back the spark that was lost.

The Detroit Lions were the talk of the NFL last season and favorites to reach the Super Bowl in the NFC, but injuries to their defense late in the season derailed that dream. In the offseason, they lost both their defensive and offensive coordinators, so it’ll be an uphill battle to surpass last season’s success. However, if anyone can motivate that team it’s head coach Dan Campbell.

You can argue that the Kansas City Chiefs are a dynasty. They’ve reached the last three Super Bowls, and five out of the last six, winning three in the process. Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce are all running it back this season. And yes, I HAVE to mention that Kelce is now engaged to Taylor Swift. Kansas City will be without possibly their best wide receiver in Rashee Rice after he was suspended for the first six games of the season after violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

The Bombshell

The biggest story of the offseason came recently as the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first round draft picks in 2026/27. Jerry Jones and Parsons couldn’t agree on a long-term contract, but the Packers were able to sign him to four-year, $188 million contract, making him the highest paid non-QB in the league.

Week 1

The biggest game in week one is a rematch between The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills. Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson was the MVP in 2024 (and 2019), and Buffalo’s Josh Allen won it this past season in 2025. Both teams look to dethrone Kansas City. The closest either team has come was last season when KC beat Buffalo 32-29 in the AFC Championship game.

The Reigning Champs

There was a “push” to do away with the “Tush Push” play that Philadelphia Eagles love to run. They’ve perfected the play to a degree where it’s almost unstoppable, even when the opposition knows they’re going to run it. The campaign to outlaw the play failed and the Eagles can once again rely on it to carry them deep into the playoffs. According to reports, they were one of the teams vying for Micah Parsons, but the Cowboys couldn’t trade him to a divisional rival, nonetheless a reigning Super Bowl champ. Either way, the Eagles should continue to impress this season. They kick off the season tonight vs. those same Dallas Cowboys.

Enjoy the season!
