Washington Capitals 1 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning 3 Post-Game Notes

Lightning win home opener

The Tampa Bay Lightning took home the home opener win against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

Tampa had the Capitals hemmed in, outshooting Washington 30-21, taking nine more shots in the first period alone where the Bolts took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Brandon Hagel had both primary assists in those goals.

The Lightning killed off all three Capitals power-plays. The Capitals scored an even-strength goal in the second period. However, Nikita Kucherov assisted Jake Guentzel for an empty netter near the end of the third period to seal the deal.

Next up, the Bolts host the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night at 7PM.
