Montreal Canadiens 4 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning 5 (SO) Post-Game Notes

Tampa goes streaking, four consecutive wins

On a back-to-back, following a penalty-ridden 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers, the Tampa Bay Lightning won a post-regulation shootout at home as they hosted the Montreal Canadiens Sunday night.

Tampa continued playing excellent in the PK, killing off all four Montreal power-play opportunities. All eight regulation goals in this game came at even strength.

After a scoreless first period, Nikita Kucherov broke the ice, scoring back-to-back goals in the second period to put Tampa up. He leads the team this season with 49 points. For his “troubles”, he was named the NHL’s first star of the week.

The Bolts would find themselves up 4-1 early in the third period. However, the Canadiens went on a run of their own, scoring three unanswered goals, including one with only four seconds left in regulation to force a shootout.

Gage Goncalves put up two assists, but it was his deciding shootout goal that won the game for Tampa.

Next up, they face the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
