Seth Jones, 29, of Soddy-Daisy, was arrested last week and charged with criminal homicide in the Sept. 21 death of the girl, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.

According to investigators, Jones initially told police in Soddy-Daisy that the baby fell off the couch while he was making her a bottle of formula, according to court records.

On Jan. 4, Jones allegedly told officers that he became frustrated with the child, WTVC reported. Jones “spun around in frustration, which slung (the child) away from his body,” and the toddler hit the television stand, according to an affidavit of complaint.

Jones then said he picked up the baby, who was unresponsive, “and shook her for two to three minutes before he eventually contacted (the baby’s) mother,” according to court records.

Hamilton County Medical Examiner James Metcalfe performed an autopsy a few days after the September 2020 incident and ultimately ruled the child’s death a homicide, with the cause being blunt force trauma, the Times Free Press reported.

The girl sustained several severe injuries to her head and spine, according to the medical examiner’s report obtained by the newspaper.

That report was completed on Dec. 23, the Times Free Press reported.

Jones was then arrested and booked into the Silverdale Detention Center, the newspaper reported. His bail was set at $620,000.
