Gandy Bait and Tackle reports good trout fishing over the Tampa Bay grass flats. The water temperature on the flats is warmer than normal for this time of year and the trout are active biting live shrimp under a cork and scented soft plastics.

The bigger speckled trout, up to 5-6 pounds have been caught by anglers throwing white buck tails with a red head.

Sheepshead are starting to bite at the Gandy Bridge. Gandy Bait suggests using live shrimp or fiddler crabs on the bottom, by the pilings for best results.

Rocky Creek has been a hot spot for reds, trout and a few snook says Minnows and Monsters. Jigs and live shrimp work best, but if you can find white bait it will really turn on the bite. Some mixed size bait is still on the Culbreath flat or in the channel close by.

On the incoming tide wading anglers have been scoring with redfish behind Picnic Island and on the American Legion flats. Silver flake Lil Johns or Gulps have been working well but the weedless gold spoon has out performed all this week.

Sarasota Bay offers lots of variety for artificial lure anglers. The deep grass flats near the passes are holding lots of trout, bluefish, redfish and pompano.

Capt. Rick Grasset likes the CAL shad or grub tail jigs and the DOA Deadly combo for his anglers while fishing the Marina Jack and Middlegound flats. Most of the pompano are on Stephens Point.

Barbara Gavoni from Sebring, fishing with her husband and Captain Billy Miller, caught her very first redfish using live shrimp. The Lewis Island area docks and structure has been holding good redfish and sheepshead.
