Go Fish

Previous Posts

Plenty of fish were caught this week despite the hard northeast wind.

Capt. John Topicz reports that charter boats out of Clearwater were catching big mackerel and a few kings on most half day trips. The macs and king were 3-4 miles off the beach.

The mitigation reefs from Johns Pass to Clearwater are red hot reports Capt. Steve Benell. Benell who likes to anchor and chum over the reefs has been catching lots of mackerel, door mat flounder, trout, small grouper and white grunts using live white bait.

The action off St. Pete Beach has been good according to Capt. Billy Miller. Miller has been catching lots of big Spanish on white bait and kings to 25 pounds on bigger baits like ladyfish and blue runners.

Mastry’s Tackle reports good trout and snook action around Coquina Key. Most of the fish are being caught in the canals which are protected from the wind.

Good catch and release snook have been caught this week inside of Passa Grille from anglers fishing the seawalls.

Anglers on The St. Pete Pier have been easily limiting on mackerel in the mornings. Free lined white bait, caught at The Pier has been the best bait. A few tarpon have also been hooked with the mackerel.

Tarpon have been tearing up the glass minnows along Bayshore Boulevard and Davis Island. Big green and silver or red and white Mirrolures slow fished around the bait schools have been getting plenty of action.
