Go Fish

Previous Posts

Capt. George Jonah reports that the school sized kingfish are thick at the South County Reef. Jonah and charter were slow trolling and drifting white bats around the bait pods and catching fish until their arms gave out.

Big kings are hanging around the offshore springs in the 30 mile range. Smokers as big as 50 pounds have been brought in and there are stories about fish in the 60-70 pound class being lost boat side. Big blue runners are the prime bait for monster kings at the springs.

Spanish mackerel are still off St. Pete Beach. Capt. Kevin Walton has been giving his parties steady action on macs 2-5 pounds by anchoring over hard bottom and chumming with white bait. A live white bait nose hooked and fished in the chum line is the way to go for the most hook ups.

Capt. Billy Miller continues to limit his charters on big gag grouper to 12 pounds in the Times Square area. Lots of just under slot red grouper are also being caught with an occasional keeper. After limiting on gags Miller has been using cut squid on a “Chicken Rig” and filling up a bucket with tasty Key West grunts.

Trout fishing in Homosassa is going strong according to Capt. William Toney. DOA Deadly Combinations and green and silver Mirrolures are doing the most damage. Marker 14 and Grey Mare Pass are the hot spots.
