UM freshman defensive end Jeffrey Brown has been charged with sexually assaulting a female student who was severely intoxicated, a Miami television station reported.

Brown, 19, turned himself into Coral Gables Police on Wednesday and admitted to the crime after being read his Miranda rights, according to CBS4.

UM released a statement on Wednesday, but did not refer to Brown by name.

“The University of Miami has become aware of the serious charges made against a student athlete, and he has been suspended indefinitely from the football program,” the statement said. “In accordance with its procedures, the University cannot comment further at this time.”

Brown’s name was not on the UM roster as of Wednesday evening. Brown, who redshirted last season, is the second UM player arrested in recent weeks. Starting linebacker Ramon Buchanan was arrested last month after an incident involving police. Buchanan was charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors. He entered a pretrial diversion program and was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and apologize to the officers involved.
