Charles Kurzman will be a featured speaker Monday, February 11 as part of the Citizenship Initiative Speaker Series. Dr. Kurzman is a professor of Sociology at University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and co-director of the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations. He will be speaking on: Why There are So Few Muslim Terrorists. Kurzman who has written widely about the Islamic reform movements asks: "If terrorist methods are as widely available as automobiles, why are there so few Islamist terrorists?" His research finds that Islamic terrorism has not posed as large a threat as reporters and the public think.The talk is co-sponsored by the USF Department of Sociology.
