Students from all over the Hillsborough County area are coming together to perform in abenefit performance for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. They will be performing bothmusical and dramatic scenes that have been awarded a rating of “superior” at the district level, andthat will be going on to state competition in March 2013. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation’s leading industry-based,nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon thetalents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988BC/EFA has raised more than $225 million for essential services for people with AIDSand other critical illnesses across the United States. Broadway Cares awards annual grants to more than 450 AIDS and family serviceorganizations nationwide and is the major supporter of the social service programs atThe Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women’sHealth Initiative, the Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, The Dancers’ Resource and theStage Managers’ Project. The Florida State Thespian organization collects and donates money to Broadway Cares every year.The thespians of District 9 are trying to be the top donor in the state for this school year, and theyneed YOUR help! “All proceeds from this event will go directly to Broadway Cares.
